History, 1962 to now

Oselli by decade: where we were and what happened
WhenWhere, and what happened
1960sIn 1962 David Oldham and Dudley Gliddon, both apprentices at BMC, began modifying and gas flowing cylinder heads in their spare time. Oxford Engine Services was established as MG Rover/BMC specialists.
1970sExpanded to Ford and Vauxhall. The name ‘Oselli’, a derivative of Oxford Engine Services with an Italian ring to it, became synonymous with motor sport.
Before OxfordA series of moves: from Wheatley to Baynards Green, where the Oscar Formula Ford car was built, then to Eynsham.
1980sOxfordMoved into large purpose built premises, and helped develop and engineer Aston Martin engines.
1990sIn 1993 David Oldham retired and sold the business to Barry Coombes. In early 1994 David Eales, a senior manager at Aston Martin, joined as Managing Director, and later took full control. Classic and sports car sales added.
2000sWitneyMoved to Bridge Garage, just west of Oxford.
2010sGreat HorwoodMoved to our current premises.
2020sGreat HorwoodIts 60th year in business: 2022.

Oselli became leaders in developing racing engines, with many successes in the Mini 7 and Mini Miglia series. Under David Eales, classic car servicing, sales and restoration followed, and the Motorsport Division.

In the press: an interview with David Eales, our MG and Aston Martin specialist (on the live site), and a Classic Cars Magazine feature on a major Oselli MGA restoration (on the live site). Both are on oselli.com.

What customers write

“The old girl is still going strong… Castle Combe last Wednesday when it was a million degrees, performed faultlessly. In full ‘race trim’ and I think looking epic!”

Sebring MGA owner, at Castle Combe in an email to Claire

  1. A night run

“Had a night run with the car last evening and oh my god I can read the gauges and see the road. What a difference! You and your team did a great job.”
A customer in an email to David
  2. Caledonian RallyThe engine’s first event

“I had the engine out on its first event last weekend. Caledonian rally one day in Kielder forests, second day in the Scottish borders. Only 3 1300 entered so we were amalgamated with 1600. We got a strong result, 3rd in class, 32nd overall from 75 starters, 1st 1300.”
